Seasonal Farm Crew Member

Location: Milkweed Farm in Chilmark
Employment Type: Full-Time Seasonal (June through October)
Compensation: Pay commensurate with experience

Position Overview

Milkweed Farm is seeking motivated, reliable Seasonal Crew Members to join our team for the 2026 growing season. This role is primarily focused on field production work, with additional responsibilities supporting our CSA pickup and farmers market operations.

You’ll work closely with our core team to execute the day-to-day work of the farm—planting, maintaining, and harvesting crops, and helping bring that harvest to our customers through organized, high-quality distribution.

We operate in close partnership with Merry Farm, and this role is part of a shared, collaborative farming system. Crew members may work across both farm sites and contribute to a unified production and distribution effort.

This is a physically demanding, fast-paced role best suited for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in doing things well, and can plug into an existing team with a collaborative mindset.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants exposure to how a collaborative, multi-farm system operates in real time.

Schedule & Hours

Full-time seasonal position (approx. 40 hours/week)
Typical schedule: Tuesday through Saturday; some flexibility required

Key Responsibilities

Field Production

  • Bed preparation, planting, and transplanting

  • Hand weeding and cultivation

  • Trellising, pruning, and crop maintenance

  • Harvesting crops efficiently and with care

  • Supporting irrigation setup and adjustments

  • Working alongside the field lead to execute weekly priorities

Harvest + Post-Harvest Support

  • Assisting with washing, packing, and organizing produce

  • Maintaining quality standards and proper handling practices

  • Keeping wash/pack areas clean and organized

  • Supporting timely harvest-to-cooling workflow

CSA + Distribution

  • Assisting with weekly CSA pickup (setup, restocking, breakdown)

  • Helping create a smooth, welcoming pickup experience

  • Supporting packing and organization for CSA and wholesale orders

Farmers Market Support

  • Assisting with harvest and prep for market

  • Helping set up, restock, and break down market stand

  • Support with sales and customer interaction

General Farm Support

  • Jumping in where needed across both farm sites

  • Working collaboratively with the team to prioritize time-sensitive tasks

  • Maintaining a positive, respectful team environment

Qualifications

  • Prior farm or outdoor labor experience preferred (but not required)

  • Strong work ethic and ability to perform repetitive physical tasks

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly

  • Detail-oriented and able to follow systems and instructions

  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented

  • Interest in sustainable agriculture and local food systems

About the Farm

Milkweed Farm is a diversified vegetable farm in Chilmark, MA, growing for our CSA, West Tisbury Farmers Market, wholesale accounts, and local retail locations. We operate in partnership with Merry Farm, working as one coordinated production system to grow and distribute high-quality vegetables across the island.

We use organic-driven growing practices that prioritize soil health, efficiency, and thoughtful systems. Our team works as a unified crew, moving between field work, harvest, and distribution based on the needs of the week.
